<p>A water resistant ground burst simulator for use in military training ejects a readily dispersable powder or liquid in the air to simulate explosion of ground burst munitions, such as mines or shells. The simulator comprises a cylindrical open-ended casing 1 in which a frangible water- proof bag 2 containing a chemical agent i.e. powder or liquid is placed. A firing means 14 is placed near the bottom of the casing, and a rupturing means 11 protrudes in the casing. Both ends of the casing are then closed by water-tight closure means 4, 5 and the parts are held in the assembled position by a water resistant adhesive. In a preferred embodiment, means 16 is provided for implanting the simulator in the ground to facilitate above ground firing. The arrangement is such that when the bag containing the chemical agent is expelled from the casing by detonation of the firing means, the bag is torn open by the rupturing means as it leaves the casing to disperse the chemical agent in the air to simulate the firing of a ground burst munition. <IMAGE></p> |
