ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE WELDING APPARATUS

An electrode assembly for electrical resistance welding apparatus is disclosed. The assembly includes a mounting, and at least two spaced anvil blocks carried on the mounting. At least one of the blocks is carried for displacement relative to the mounting and at least one of the blocks provides an electrode. A cam arrangement moves the displaceable anvil block or blocks relative to the mounting so that the blocks can engage and clamp a workpiece to be welded. Electric current can be passed to the or each electrode anvil block through the mounting; the or each electrode anvil block can serve to support the workpiece during spot welding of a second workpiece thereto when a secondary electrode is positioned in contact with the second workpiece in the vicinity of the electrode anvil block. The electrode anvil block of the invention thus serves to effect partial clamping of the workpiece during spot welding and also provides a firm base against which the welding is effected.
