The epicyclic hub drive is designed for use on a front wheel drive vehicle. A simple compact layout of the drive and bearing parts is achieved by having the planet carrier (7) linked to a hollow shaft which is secured by a nut (8) on the inside of the hub and is thereby braced on the wheel inner shell of the wheel bearing. The drive shaft (13) is taken through the hollow shaft and terminates in a gear wheel (16) on the outer end. The effective width of the hub drive is considerably reduced without affecting the operation of the drive.
