Ethanol is prepd. by the catalytic hydrogenation of an ethylene oxide and AcH mixt., present as an aq. or ethanolic soln. contg. 10-15 vol.% ethlene oxide and 2-5 vol.% AcH, at 110-160 degrees C under 20-60 bar pressure. Ratio AcH ethylene oxide is 1:5 to 10. A metal catalyst is used, supported on carriers which do not have high surface activity. Pure EtOH, e.g. contg. 100-200 ppm. C2H40 and ppm AcH, is obtd. in high yield, e.g. 92.5-95%. |
