An electrical generating element utilizes alpha, beta or gamma rays issuing from radio-elements, partic. in the form of waste products. The rays are directed onto a p-n junction through intermediate cpds. capable of absorbing all or part of the energy of the rays, and re-emitting at a longer wavelength in the optimal absorption zone of the p-n junction. The said cpds. are distributed in a matrix interposed between the radio-elements and the junction, and made from synthetic material, pref. polymethylmethacrylate not treated against UV, silicone, or PVC, which is transparent to the rays. The cpds. are pref. diphenyloxazol, and/or rhodamine B, and/or alpha-naphthol, and/or one or more substances of the benzene series. The present method permits the generation of an electric current at the p-n junction without deterioration of the junction caused by direct reception of the rays. The apparatus therefore has a much longer life.
|
