1395610 Tyre chains EISEN-UND DRAHTWERK ERLAU AG 6 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31579/72 Heading B7C A tyre chain comprises an inboard assembly 6 and an outboard assembly 7 interconnected by chain portion 1 which in use extends over the tyre tread. The inboard assembly comprises an arcuate member 11 e.g. of spring steel, adapted to be connected at its ends to the ends of a first flexible member, e.g. a chain 12. The outboard assembly comprises a second flexible member, e.g. a chain 34, having detachably connectible ends. A holding member e.g. an elastic cable 43, in use, holds portions of the second flexible member displaced with respect to the points of connection between the chain portion 1 and the outboard assembly. As illustrated the cable 43 is interlaced with the chain 34 to hold the latter as shown. The arcuate member 11 has elastomeric spacer sleeves 25, 26 thereon. The parts 14, 30 may be coloured for identification. Sections 2, 3 of chain portion 1 each comprise plates 4 and links 5. In assembling the tyre chain on a vehicle wheel, the parts 14, 30 and 40, 39 are disconnected and the chain is laid on the outboard side of the wheel (Fig. 3). Hook 14 of the arcuate member 11 is passed below the axle around the wheel and is attached to link 30. The member 11 is then moved to position hook 15 and link 31 on the outboard side of the wheel and above the wheel axis for interconnection (Fig. 5, not shown). The inboard assembly is now positioned against the inboard side of the tyre, and the ends of the chain 34 are interconnected. Finally, the holding member 43 is applied.
