In order in a simple way to maintain a constant speed and tension of unwinding of the warp threads from the beam of a loom, a set of cylindrical gears (35-38), engaged with each other and interchangeable, is connected to the beam (2) and is driven by one (29) of two variable-groove pulleys (24, 29), the other pulley (24) being driven by the driving shaft (25) of the loom, the sizes of the grooves of the pulleys being governed by a set of interconnected levers (21, 32, 34) which is sensitive to the tension of the warp threads. <IMAGE>
