Apparatus for the quantitative determination of hormones using radiolabelled compounds and method for operating the above

The apparatus has two tubes which are releasably connected together. One (1) is closed at the bottom. It is used as measuring tube and is provided for the reception of the liquid to be investigated together with a solution containing a radiolabelled hormone and the corresponding antibody or the corresponding hormone-binding protein. The other (3) is used as adsorption tube and can be closed at the outer end by a stopper (4). It consists of a thermoplastic which contains 10 to 60 % by weight of an ion exchanger, resulting in its inner surface (5) acting as an adsorbent with regard to the hormone which is to be determined or is used for the determination. The use of this apparatus makes it possible for the hormone to be separated from the solution without contamination in the determination of hormones or hormone-binding proteins. Pipetting, washing and centrifugation is unnecessary. The results of the analysis are very reproducible. <IMAGE>
