The prodn. method for blocks of paper sheets or similar materials bound together by wire spirals includes the following processing stages:- the stacks of paper sheets of multiple block width are divided into part stacks, and are then holed along one stack edge; the part stacks are then combined into one stack and cut into blocks. Each block is then lined up and a wire spiral is then inserted. The processing track for the stack or for the blocks extends only in the one plane which lies parallel to a front surface of the stack defined by a short side edge and the stack height.
