<p>Nitrostyrene derivs. of formula (I) are new: (wher R1 is H, Me or Et; R2 is H, Cl or Br; R3 is OH, 5-nitrothiazol-2-yloxy or O-CX-NHR4; X is O or S; R4 is 1-4C alkyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, bromophenyl, iodophenyl, anisyl, tolyl or nitrophenyl; with the proviso that R3 is not 4-OH when R1=R2=H). Cpds. (I) have antifungal, antibacterial and anthelmintic activity. Cpds. (I) can be prepd. by (i) reacting a benzaldehyde deriv. of formula (II): (R2) (OH)C6H3-CHO (II) with a lower alkylamine (e.g. PrNH2 or BuNH2) in a hydrocarbon solvent; (ii) reacting the resulting aldimine with a nitroalkane of formula R1CH2NO2 at 50-100 degrees C in the presence of an aliphatic acid; and (iii) opt. reacting the product (I; R3=OH) with 2-chloro- or 2-bromo-5-nitrothiazole or with R4NCX.</p> |
