Gating system for foundry moulds with a vertical joint line, and used for the sepn. of gas bubbles and solid impurities, esp. slag and oxides, where the system includes at least one swirling chamber (a) with its axis at 90 degrees to the plane of the joint surfaces of the mould halves.One pref. system uses two chambers (a) which are staggered horizontally but have a common tangential inlet from a downstick.Chamber (a) may have a dia. larger or smaller than its length; and each chamber pref. has an air vent hole with a collection chamber (b) for gas or air. Alternatively, chamber (b ) may be located immediately after chamber.
