A fibre-reinforced base sheet in the form of a prepreg containing 40-70% by weight of thermosetting synthetic resin is pressed with at least one cover sheet of absorbent material such that flow of the synthetic resin, measured at a pressure of 5 kp/cm<2> at 150 DEG C and 10 min. duration, of at least 10% and complete impregnation of the cover sheet are obtained. The base sheet consists of a plurality of layers the synthetic resins of which may have different chemical structures and only the layer adjacent to the respective cover sheet having the aforementioned resin content and resin flow. Resin content and resin flow of the other layers of the base sheet are below these values. By means of the multi-layer base sheet of which only the outer layer(s) has or have high resin content and high resin flow, resin losses due to pressing out are counteracted. Curing takes place at the same time by means of the hot pressing.
