Pyridine derivs. of formula (I) are prepd. In the formula, D is (II) or (III); n is O or 1; R8 is H, C1-4 alkyl or furfuryl; X1, X2, X3 and X4 are any combination of 0-3 CR4 or CR5R6, 0-3N or NR3 and 0-2O or S; Y1 and Y2 are N or CR4; Z1 and Z2 are O, S, NR3 or CR5R6; at least one of the X, Y and Z gps. must be a heteroatom; R3 is C1-4 alkyl or alkoxy, C3-6 alkenyl; R4 is H, halo, C1-6 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy etc.; R5 and R6 is H, C1-4 alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkoxy, NO2 etc,; n is 4 or 5; R7 is phenyl etc. (I) are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulators.
