The buoy is cylindrical and has a spiral spring (3) which is geared to the propeller shaft (4) which drives the propeller (5). Two pistons (1) and (2) are fitted in the cylinder. The top piston is geared to the toothed wheel by means of a rack and pinion. A quantity of oil (9) is located between the two pistons. The bottom piston (1) is spring loaded. Air pipe (8) is connected to the top of the buoy. A pair of handles allows the rescued person to hold the buoy and be propelled to safety.
