1295946 Chains; chain gearing GUENTHER SYSTEMS Inc 17 Feb 1970 [17 March 1969] 7546/70 Heading F2Q [Also in Division B8] A chain drive or conveyer system comprises two chains 10, 12, each comprising links having overlapping portions connected together and having bearing surfaces, the chains being in superposed interlocking relationship with one another over part of their runs, with the overlapping portions of successive links of each chain engaging the bearing surfaces of links of the other chain. The chains may comprise alternating pairs of inner links 14 or 20 and outer links 16 or 22, as shown, or successive pairs of joggled links (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), the latter including interengageable teeth (44, 45) on their overlapping portions. The sprockets have a tooth pitch equal to half the link pitch of each chain, to engage the link pins of both chains. A conveyer for loading or unloading unit loads on to or from a lorry 60, Figs. 5, 6, uses two pairs 86 of interlocking chains 86a, 86b to support flexible load platforms 110. Each platform is carried between a bar 112 between chains 86a and a bar 114 between chains 86b so that it remains horizontal when moving between the levels of sprockets 96, 104 and 100, 88. The various sprocket shafts are supported by pivotjointed frames 62 mounted on the lorry frames 59. The shafts 72 and 84 of sprockets 88 and 90 are driven from a reversible motor or P.T.O. shaft 78 via worm gearing 74, shaft 72, and chain gearing 76, 80, 82. |
