The lever-arm holding the measuring wheel pivots on an axle belonging to the drive-chassis. The recording device is synchronised with the vehicle's forward movement. Another device adjusts the angle of slant between the lever arm and a straight line formed by the paths of the two axles in a vertical plane through the lever arm. Each axle belonging to the drive-chassis has one supporting wheel. The two supporting-wheels and the measuring wheel are positioned in the same plane and along the direction of movement of the carriage. At least one extra support wheel is positioned outside the measurement plane.
