Textile material in strand form is dyed under conditions of low bath ratios. The bath ratio is 1:0.5 to 1:2.5. The material is sprayed with the dye liquor and, without the formation of foam, is guided either through a system consisting of at least three cylinders or rollers, which has no centrifugal cylinders, or through a system consisting of at least three stationary bars. The material is thereby deflected, compressed and kneaded. The dyeing is completed thereafter. This process makes it possible, for the first time, to utilise the advantages of using a low bath ratio, coming within the abovementioned range, for the strand dyeing of textile material.
