1302137 Seaming non-metallic sheet material AUTOMATION INDUSTRIES Inc 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 21090/71 Heading B5K [Also in Division F2] In making indefinite lengths of a substantially cylindrical insulated duct (see Division F2) the opposite edges 50, 52 of an outer wrapper material, e.g. of plastics, reinforced paper or metal foil, are gripped by pairs of guide rollers 58, 60, 62, 64 so as to be suspended therebetween and the pairs of rollers are arranged so that the edges are brought up around a core member and disposed adjacent each other. Each pair of rollers is tiltable and pneumatic control means are provided to tilt the roller pairs so as to maintain the edges at a desired height. Just prior to the edges being brought together an adhesive is applied to one or both edges by means 114. The two edges are then brought together under pressure between a pair of endless belts 118, 120 to set the adhesive. Further adhesive may be applied to the edges at 132 and the edges folded over by fingers 128, 140, 141 to form a doubled seam. Alternatively, the edges may be joined by stapling or riveting.
