The heating element, for household appliances such as toasters, irons, air heaters etc. has rapid heat transfer from the element to the medium being heated and high resistance to chemical corrosion effects. The non-conducting support (1) is made of a glass ceramic and the heating lines (2) on this support are made of a material with the same or approx. the same coefft. of thermal expansion. The basic heating lines are brought up to the required thickness for given heating power by electroplating. The basic heating lines may be made by vacuum deposition or by applying a suitable metal paste.
