METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REFINING ALUMINUM

PURPOSE:To obtain a refined Al having high purity by segregation and solidification of molten Al. CONSTITUTION:A rotary cooling body 20 and a pressing plate 36 are dipped into the molten metal M incorporated in a crucible 10. The cooling body 20 is rotated at the speed, by which the centrifugal force is worked with an intensity so that the crystallized alpha-Al shakes off from the surface. The shaken-off alpha-Al is sunk in the molten metal M and deposited as the refined aluminum R at the bottom part of the crucible 10. Impurity concentrated liquid entrapped in the refined aluminum R is squeezed out from the refined aluminum R by pressing the refined part interface I by the pressing plate 36. The whole range of the refined part boundary I is uniformly pressed by changing the rotating position of the pressing plate 36 at each pressing time. By this method, the refined Al without mixing the impurity is obtd. at the high efficiency.
