The saw for boards comprises a frame (10) with a horizontal guide track along which moves a saw unit with at least one rotary saw blade (38) which moves upwardly into a cutting gap (14) which is disposed in a workpiece supporting surface (12) of the frame and extends along the guide track. Above the cutting gap is a vertically movable pressing beam (29) for clamping the workpiece against the supporting surface. At least one of the two opposed walls of the gap, defining a cutting edge, is disposed in the same plane as the adjacent face of the blade and also in this plane is the leading edge of a clamping bar (56) which rests on the workpiece and is mounted on the lower surface of the beam.
