A straightening machine, which can be readily adjusted for straightening most bar and tube stock, consists of two rows of opposing concave rolls set at angles to the straightening direction. The roll angles may be adjusted and the roll heights set by screw drive. Four main pillar supports hold the top and bottom roll carriers together and are positioned to allow universal drive couplings to the rolls. The upper roller carrier may be moved relative to the lower carrier by loosening the four pillar support nuts and resetting the position with a hand wheel. - The top carrier moves along the locating slits. For roll pressure straightening the rolls are set above one another for optimum bend straightening the top rolls are moved to positions in between the lower rolls. - Angled straightening rolls impose a helical straightening action. The rotation of the stock ensures uniform distribution of stresses over the stock section. Depending on the roll arrangement, the conditions of stressing may be by bending forces depending on the roll positions or by direct roll pressure. For straightening by bending action, short distances between the rolls are necessary for good results to obtain the required bending moments. Roll press straightening results in considerable increase in the strength of the material due to the cold working effect, which can be an advantage for this walled tubes. Thick walled tubes and solid bar section may require too high roll pressures for straightening by this means and so straightening with bending action is more suitable and does not result in an increase in material strength.
