PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element that has a large work function on the surface of an anode and a small work function on the surface of a cathode, and can improve efficiency of a device, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element is composed of a light-emitting layer formed with an organic substance of low molecules or high molecules on a base thereof, and lamination of an anode body and a cathode body via at least the light-emitting layer. In the organic electroluminescent element and the manufacturing method thereof, the anode body is an amorphous carbon film terminated by an electron attractive group and the cathode body is an amorphous carbon film terminated by an electron donative group.
