The switching system for the stator coils of a rotary machine uses swashplates, cranks, cams or eccentric discs arranged in sequence along the rotor shaft of the machine to operate the switches. Eccentric disc cams can be used, each connected to a stator coil, and insulated from the rotor shaft, each disc has an arm attached to it to raise and lower spring loaded contacts so that these are operated in the correct sequence. To regulate the speed of rotation, the eccentric discs can be rotated through a given angle about the axis of the rotor shaft. In an a.c./d.c. machine with four stator coils, two eccentric discs are mounted on the rotor shaft, and behind them, two slip rings. Another design has eccentric discs which press directly on spring loaded swinging switching arms.
|
