PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable high-speed processing, while securing a dictionary memory of large capacity, in compression/extension processing using Lempel-Ziv algorithm and to efficiently perform processing in parallel with the other processings as well. SOLUTION: A second memory 10 of a large capacity is provided as a dictionary memory and while using a first memory 7 of a small capacitance as one part of the dictionary memory, the collation of a dictionary or registration to the dictionary is performed preferentially to the first memory 7 of the small capacity. Data are exchanged with the dictionary in the second memory 10, as needed. Thus, high-speed compression/extension processing can be performed, without the concern for the capacity limit of the dictionary memory, furthermore, a memory bus will not occupied by decreasing the frequency of access to the second memory 10, and the other processings can be made easily in parallel as well. |
