A method and apparatus for making fiber reinforced preforms using a wet slur ry process wherein the flow of liquid through portions of a screen having a predetermin ed configuration is selectively controlled. The selective control of the flow of liquid through the portions of the screens regulating the quantity of fibers deposited on the selected portions of the screen thereby controlling the thickness of the fiber preform at the selected portions of t he screen.
