. The device includes: - a light beam generator (1); - a transparent recipient (3) through which the particle mixture passes and which is placed in the path of the light beam (2A,2B), emitted by the generator (1); - an convergent optical system (5) which forms in the focal plane, a diffraction/diffusion figure of the particles illuminated by the beam (2A,2B); - a group of photo-sensitive sensors (7i) spread radially in the focal plane of the optical system (5), which generate electrical signals representing the detected light intensity; - a signal processor (9) which processes the signals from the sensors (7I), and which determines the granular spread. The beam generator (1) generates a monochromatic beam at different frequencies, and is designed to emit at least two distinct individual monochromatic beams, whose respective frequencies are multiples of one or the other. The device also has a transmitter (M2) designed to transmit in a distinct way the individual monochromatic beams (2A,2B) onto the transparent recipient (3).
