PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which contamination in the recorder can be suppressed by reducing the quantity of ink scattering from a cleaning member immediately after wiping operation. SOLUTION: A cleaning member 19 formed of an elastic material into stripe shape has an opening 19a for releasing ink scrapped off from the nozzle forming face of a recording head to the rear surface when the cleaning member is deformed by sliding on the nozzle forming face, and longitudinally elongated groove parts 19b for introducing ink flowing on the rear surface through the opening in the gravitational direction. At the time of resetting the cleaning member upon finishing the wiping operation, the majority of scraped ink moves toward the base end part of the wiping member 19 and the quantity of ink scattering from the cleaning member can be reduced significantly when the cleaning member is reset upon finishing the wiping operation.
