1505740 Mixing apparatus WACKER-CHEMIE GmbH 6 March 1975 [6 March 1974] 9360/75 Heading B1C [Also in Division C3] A high speed mixer used to foam and gelatinate a vinyl chloride polymer plastisol by generating heat by friction within the mixer (see Division C3) comprises a housing 20 (Fig. 2) carrying the bearings for drive shaft 21 which passes through seal 17; shaft 21 is driven by an electric motor (not shown) and is connected to rotor 22 which turns in stator 23; sealing liquid (e.g. water) is fed through inlet 16 to seal 17 and then to outlet 18. The stator may have longitudinal ribs and the stator studs of rhombic cross-section. Inlets 6, 11a and 11b feed materials to be mixed which are then discharged via nozzle 24 and tube 26 (Fig. 4), wheel 25 reduces the pressure in the mixer and increases exit pressure in nozzle 24. Heating liquid is fed via inlet 13 to a jacket in the mixer casing and is returned via outlet 14 to a heater. Fig. 3 is a view from below of the cross-section of the mixer of Figs. 2 and 4.
