A process is disclosed for writing by means of a laser on coloured or uncoloured foils having at least one covering layer and a base layer. The process is characterised in that the foil is irradiated by the laser radiation through the covering layer. The covering layer is selected so as to not absorb the used laser radiation and the supporting layer is finished so as to become able to receive an inscription made by a laser.
