<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it takes a lot of time for resetting gate potential of an OLED driving TFT to a predetermined value in a standard mode when an organic EL display device can perform display in a standard luminance mode and a high luminance mode. <P>SOLUTION: In the reset operation of the gate potential of the OLED driving TFT 3 when writing an image signal, the initial value of the gate potential of the OLED driving TFT 3 is set near power supply potential or near reference potential by supplying precharge current to the OLED element for short period of time before the reset operation in the standard mode. By the operation, variation of OLED driving TFT gate potential after reset is reduced. Thus, a light emission period in one frame can be lengthened.
