摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type liquid crystal display device which has light display characteristics, a high contrast, and small viewing angle dependency. <P>SOLUTION: The transmission type liquid crystal display device comprises a polarizer, first and second optical anisotropic layers, and a liquid crystal cell having a homogeneous alignment liquid crystal layer held between substrates, and is characterized in that when a ratio of refractive index anisotropy &Delta;n is defined as a birefringence wavelength dispersion D, D1>D2, D1=1.00 to 1.20, D2=0.80 to 1.10, and ¾(DLC+D1)/2-D2¾<0.5, where D1 and D2 are birefringence wavelength dispersions of the first and second optical anisotropic layers and DLC is a birefrincence wavelength dispersion of the liquid crystal cell; and ¾Re1+Re(LC)-Re2¾<30 nm, Re1=20 to 140 nm, and Re2=50 to 180 nm, where Re1 and Re2 are phase difference values of the first and second optical anisotropic layers at a wavelength of 550 nm, and Re(LC) is a phase difference of black display of the liquid crystal cell, the first optical anisotropic layer being made of a liquid crystal film obtained by fixing a nematic hybrid alignment structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
