PURPOSE:To transmit components which can be received by the receiver of a high resolution corresponding type as well as by even a conventional receiver, at the time of transmitting a high resolution video signal. CONSTITUTION:At a transmission side, the high resolution video signal is separated into high pass components and low pass components (the processing validating range of the conventional receiver), compression-encoded, multiplexed, and transmitted (102, 104, and 105). The edge information of the high pass component side is transmitted (103). At a high resolution reception side, the multiplexed signal is separated, the high pass components and the low pass components are decoded, and synthesized, so that the original high resolution video signal can be obtained (108-111). And also, at the conventional reception side, the low pass components and the edge information are decoded, and synthesized (113-116). |
