PURPOSE:To protect equipment from getting soiled by waste ink overflowed from a waste ink tank and confirm easily the overflow of waste ink. CONSTITUTION:A recorder comprises a waste ink tank 17 with a hole 17a for storing waste ink from a suction pump 16 of a function recovery means for recovering and retaining the ink jet function of a recording head 1, a rib 19c for preventing the flowing of waste ink overflowing from a waste ink tank 17 by encircling the periphery of the waste ink tank 17 and a cover for covering the waste ink tank 17 which can be opened and closed, and an ink absorber is built in the waste ink tank 17.
