PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an input device from being made large in size and to facilitate it input operation by reducing the number of operating elements required for the input operation of numerals or characters. SOLUTION: Numerals (characters) of a plurality of digits being equal to ten keys can be inputted by providing a numerals (characters) progressive shift means and a shift means in the input device for a headphone, remote controller, or the like and repeating such operation that a display numeral (character) of a first digit is shifted in order and it is shifted to the next digit. Also, numerals (characters) of a plurality of digits can be inputted by only two keys by discriminating that input is finished when an input decision means is not operated for the prescribed time or more after operation of the numerals (characters) progressive means or the shift means by timer control, and defining numerals (characters) being selected.
