PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element which has high luminous efficiency and has a longer life than in the past.SOLUTION: In a light emitting element having an EL layer 103 between a pair of electrodes, the EL layer 103 has between an electrode 104 functioning as an anode and a luminescent fourth layer (luminescent layer) 114, at least a first layer (hole injection layer) 111 having a hole injection property, a second layer (first hole transport layer) 112 having a hole transport property and a third layer (second hole transport layer) 113 having a hole transport property. By forming a structure where an absolute value of a highest occupied molecular orbital level (HOMO level) of the second layer 112 is larger than an absolute value of each highest occupied molecular orbital level (HOMO level) of the first layer 111 and the third layer 113, a travelling speed of a hole injected from the side of an electrode 102 functioning as an anode is reduced thereby to improve luminous efficiency of the light emitting element.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
