Exercise equipment with a resistance assembly is driven by at least one helical drive mechanism. The helical drive mechanism includes a helical member and a slider which slides linearly along the helical member and is driven in response to a force provided by the user. An opposing resistance force is provided by the resistance assembly which is controlled manually or electronically by a control unit. The control unit may be connected to a user recognition and authorization device, body monitoring devices, a microprocessor and/or a tracking device for monitoring the position of the slider. The helical drive mechanism can be used in equipment that simulates exercises such as weightlifting, rowing, stair climbing and bicycle riding. An optional adjustable frame allows multiple exercises to be performed using a single piece of equipment. |
