The invention concerns a method for preparing an aluminous cementitious product, including the following steps: i) preparing a composition comprising in appropriate proportions: a) an aluminous cement; b) a calcium-specific complexing agent; and c) water; ii) if required, adjusting the acidity of the composition to a pH > 3; and iii) shaping and hardening the composition. The invention also concerns an aluminous cementitious product having a surface layer comprising a gibbsite-enriched gel.
