PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for removing cation like lithium and an iodide in a low energy carbonylation process, and producing a purified acetic acid.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing an acetic acid which includes: bringing a rough acetic acid product containing at least one cation selected from the group consisting of IA group and IIA group of the periodic table, quaternary nitrogen cation, and a phosphorus-containing cation into contact with a cation exchanger in an acid form to produce an intermediate acetic acid product, before an iodide is removed using an ion exchange resin exchanged with metal; and then bringing the intermediate acetic acid product into contact with an ion exchange resin exchanged with metal having an acid cation exchange site to produce a purified acetic acid.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
