PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence of external light and to detect information on the shape of a hand by using a near infrared source as a light source and fitting an infrared pass filter to a video camera lens. CONSTITUTION:The brightness of light from the near infrared ray emitting lamp 3b is made uniform on a diffusion transmitting plate 4. If a hand is placed on the upper surface of a lighting equipment 2 having said plate 4, the light from the equipment 2 is blocked by the hand, the remaining light is inputted to the video camera 5 through the infrared pass filter 12. Namely, the shape with a white hand part and black other parts is inputted to the camera 5. The input image is photoelectrically transferred, and an image input processing part 6 extracts parameters such as the length of a finger and stores them in a memory part 8 in correspondence to ID numbers inputted through a ten key 9. Then a changeover switch 7 is moved to a side B. A decision processing part 10 compares a parameter obtained in a similar way with the parameter in the memory part 8, and the decision output signal 11 identifies the individual.
