Metallic electrode or insulating module for MHD generator with electrical insulation provided by a ceramic coating 2 manufactured by the vapour phase coating method. The coating for the insulation is thin and sufficiently dense. Attaching the insulating coating to metallic modules has been achieved by ceramic porous coating, which balances thermal shocks, or by layers 5, 6 which improve the metallurgical compatibility and balance the differences in heat expansion. The device for electrical insulation, which utilizes effective cooling also makes it possible to use such ceramic compounds in insulation which cannot normally be used in MHD environments on account of their chemical reactivity at high temperatures. The insulation coating on electrode or insulation modules can also cover part of the surface which is in contact with plasma. <IMAGE>
