A floor waste assembly (10) for receiving and discharging waste water. The assembly comprises: an inlet (7) which receives waste water discharged from a floor or a waste water producing appliance, a major portion of the inlet being disposed in a floor space defined by an upper floor surface and a lower floor surface and a minor part of the inlet extending below the lower floor surface; an outlet which discharges the waste water from the assembly; a conduit (6) intermediate the inlet and the outlet and engaging via a first end the minor part of the inlet and via a second end, the outlet; wherein at least a part of the outlet is disposed within a floor space (5) above the lower surface of the floor such that an upper surface of a water barrier formed in the assembly between the inlet and the outlet is disposed within a region defined by the upper and lower floor surfaces.
