Powder polyacrylamide (I) prepn. contains hydrophobic pref. hydrophobic, highly disperse pptd. silica (II) and >=1 organic solvent (III) boiling at >110 degrees C. (III) is immiscible or only partly miscible with water and has a solubility in water at 20 degrees C of is not >20 wt.%. (I) prepn. dissolves in water without forming lumps and releases only small amts. of solvent and esp. emulsifiers into the water. Powder disperses well in water even after long storage and is non-dusting and has good flow. The prepn. can be used for sedimentation in waste waters and in paper manufacture.
