PURPOSE:To produce a groove of a uniform depth at a high efficiency, by a method whereirn the depth of a groove is detected by a detecting means provided on the forward side of an embossing roll in the traveling direction of a veneer, and the position of the embossing roll is regulated in resonse to the depth of the groove thus detected. CONSTITUTION:While rolling the embossing roll 2 in pressure contact with a surface of the veneer 1 fed in one direction and thereby producing the groove 3 along the feed direction of the veneer 1, the depth of the groove 3 is detected by the detecting means 4 provided on the forward side of the roll 2 in the traveling direction of the veneer 1, and the position of the roll 2 is regulated in response to the depth of the groove 3 thus detected by the means 4, thereby making the depth of the groove 3 constant. Accordingly, operating efficiency can be enhanced without need to stop the device for measuring the depth of the groove or regulating the position of the embossing roll. |
