Differential expansion between the bearing support structure (27, 28, 29) and a turbine or compressor casing 23 is accommodated during warm-up of the engine by arranging that spigots 40 on spokes 29 are slideable in holes 41 in housings 35, the bearing being held concentric with casing 23 by means of spring washers 49 acting between the housing 35 and retaining nut/washer 46/47 on spigot 40. When normal running temperature is reached, clearance 51 becomes zero and faces 39 and 45 abut, providing a limit of accommodation to the differential expansion and ensuring sufficient radial rigidity of the support structure to transmit large out-of-balance forces to casing 23 in the event of the compressor or turbine rotor accidently becoming unbalanced, as by loss of a rotor blade. The spring washers may be replaced by coil springs or elastomeric bushes. The expansion accommodating means may be at the radially inner ends of spaces 29, and the spigots may be provided on the casing 23 or ring 28 instead of on the spokes.
