The present invention relates to an apparatus which makes it possible to simulate the game of tennis in a very small space. This is an apparatus in which a ball 1 is suspended by a flexible element 2 from a fixed point 3. If the ball is struck with a racquet, the ball describes a curved trajectory in order to be absorbed in a shock-absorber element 4. A receptacle 5 in the shape of a funnel guides the ball during its fall in order to release it in line with the fixed point. The ball then stabilises, resuming the position it occupied in space in the event of a further strike. The assembly of this device is integral with a gallows arm 6 sliding with respect to a gallows leg 7. A cord 8 returned by a pulley 9 then permits adjustment, as desired, of the height of the ball with respect to the ground. The apparatus thus proposed makes it possible to change from the simulation of a low volley to simulation of a smash and of an engagement. This apparatus has multiple applications: introduction to tennis at home, introduction to tennis on group courses, pre-match warming-up, muscle re-education, testing of a racquet in the shop, and enlivening of recreation areas (parks, beaches, etc.). <IMAGE>
