The wheel unit for a cross-country vehicle (10) or similar with more than four wheels (12) in pairs has a suspension of the wheels from hydraulically supported rocker arms (32). The ground clearance, toe-in and balancing out in angled travel are levelled out hydraulically. Each wheel is suspended individually from the free end (30) of a rocker. The other end of the rocker is pivoted transversely to the frame (14). Each rocker arm is connected to the frame by a double-acting hydraulic cylinder, supporting the wheel load with as great a stroke as possible relative to the frame.
