PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photographic emulsion having high sensitivity and excellent in suitability to production (aging stability of a coating solution after dissolution), and a silver halide photographic sensitive material using the emulsion. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photographic emulsion, the coefficient of variation in equivalent circular diameter distribution of all grains is 3-40% and >=50% of the total projected area is occupied by tabular grains which satisfy the following requirements; (i) the grains are silver iodobromide or silver iodochlorobromide tabular grains having (111) faces as principal surface, (ii) each of the grains has >=1.0μm equivalent circular diameter and <=0.10μm thickness, (iii) the grains contain >=10 dislocation lines per one grain in the fringe parts and (iv) the grains have the shape of a hexagon or triangle, part of the sides and/or angles of which have been substantially recessed when seen from a direction perpendicular to the (111) principal surfaces.
