PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data transmission apparatus capable of shortening a time for transmission of image data to be stored in a video memory and compatible with even a destination which does not have a decoding means or to which a method of transmission is not set beforehand. SOLUTION: The image data transmission apparatus is equipped with a run length decision circuit capable of transmitting the image data to be displayed on a display picture to a display control unit on a reception side by using serial communication and of immediate encoding of the image data with an aim of using by changing display contents appropriately, transmits the image data to be displayed on the display picture by encoding immediately, stores the display contents in the video memory, and uses them. Then, as the immediate encoding is performed before communication is carried out, the immediate encoding is performed after reception, and the image data are stored in the video memory, the time for transmission of the image data can be shortened.
