PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the roll film shape measuring method which enables high- precision shape measurement without using any high-precision moving mechanism while leaving no contact trace on a film roll. SOLUTION: On both the sides of the roll film 1, a couple of right and left optical displacement sensors 2 and 2 are arranged across the roll axis at constant intervals and while the sensors 2 and 2 and roll film 1 are relatively moved along the roll axis, the sensors 2 and 2 measures the distance to the roll film surface, so that the external diameter of the roll film is calculated from the distances and the arrangement interval between the sensors 2 and 2.
